Exude Charisma
Here's a fantastic video on building Charisma, which is very possible. It's a learned behavior, not an innate quality that people are born with.
According to Fox, there are 3 main pillars in charisma. These are presence, power, and warmth. She then goes on to explain how to build these three pillars. I summarize below, but watch the video as it is brimming with value.
1. Presence - Being in the moment and being authentic. Become present by bringing your attention to the physical sensation in your toes. Also, focus on the different colors in a person's eyes when you are speaking with them. Don't overdo it.
2. Power - Exhibited mostly through body language. The main way to exude power is to take up physical space.
3. Warmth - Exhibited mostly through the muscles in the face, particularly the eyes. To convey warmth, simply imagine someone you have great affection for when you are speaking to people. Your voice will also play a role in warmth.
Fox is the author of a book called The Charisma Myth, which is on my reading list.

Interesting video, haven't watched it in it's entirety, but will save it for to watch later. Charisma is definitely something that can be learned.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend you finish it sometime. There are major golden nuggets in it. Most qualities which people consider to be innate, such as skills with women, confidence, charisma, are actually learned behaviors which are learned at an early age so they are mistaken for something that you have to be born with.
DeleteThat's not to say that different personalities won't differing levels of success in developing these things. Introverts for example might be better off learning charm rather than charisma.
Also, adding to the presence factor your own words:
ReplyDelete"Finally, being yourself requires being present to the moment rather than living in the past or future. Being aware of your body and your surroundings is the best way to become present."
I find exercise a good way to become aware of your body. Then again, sleep is also a necessity for me to keep the brain as focused as needed in discussions/daily life.
Your thoughts?
Yup, exercise and sleep are crucial. The mind-body connection is really powerful. Take care of your body and your mind will follow.
DeleteA few other things that help me to become present:
Yoga
Making eye-contact with people
Active listening (really trying to understand them. paraphrasing back)
Listening to the different sounds around me
Focusing on the different physiological sensations in my body
Moving with purpose
Reading books
